RailSafe Double Cleat (w/Anti Luce)
The RailSafe Double Cleat is a component of the RailSafe Barrier System – a temporary and reusable barrier system designed to help prevent falls from height.
The RailSafe Double Cleat component is used when fixing the RailSafe telescopic handrails to newel posts – such as on a kite winder staircase, enabling a temporary barrier or handrail to be installed. The Double Cleat component is screw fixed directly onto the newel post, one of the RailSafe telescopic rails (various lengths available) can then be attached via the integral anti luce brackets. Depending on your particular application, the opposite end of the telescopic rail can then be attached to either another Double Cleat fixed to another newel post, or alternatively to one of the RailSafe metal posts – again via the integral anti luce brackets fitted to the metal RailSafe posts.
In addition to the fixing flexibility outlined above, the RailSafe Double Cleat also allows the telescopic handrails to be fixed either horizontally, or at an angle to follow the line of the staircase. Whether handrails are fixed horizontally or at an angle, the system allows fixing between either two newel posts or between a newel post and one of the RailSafe metal safety posts – typically the metal post used in an angled application would be the stringer post variant.
For further information on installation of the RailSafe System see our installation guide available from your Ockwells account manager or branch.
RailSafe System – Overview
The RailSafe system is primarily comprised of a range of metal posts and telescopic metal handrails. The system also includes a Ladder Gate which creates a safe ladder access point, as well as components which allow the telescopic metal handrails to be fixed directly to newel posts – such as in a kite winder staircase application.
RailSafe - Components
The RailSafe System is configured from the items in the component list below and can be combined into numerous configurations to suit a number of applications.

- RailSafe Stringer Post (w/Anti Luce)
- RailSafe Safety Double Cleat (w/Anti Luce)
- RailSafe Telescopic Handrail C/w Fixing Plates (200 - 365mm)
- RailSafe Telescopic Handrail (425 - 630mm)
- RailSafe Telescopic Handrail (1050 - 1600mm)
- RailSafe Telescopic Handrail (1875 - 2500mm)
- RailSafe Safety Gate (w/Anti Luce)
RailSafe – Testing
The RailSafe standard and corner posts, 3x telescopic handrails 425 – 2500mm, and the safety gate have undergone testing and passed to the following standard:
- Assessed by calculation, and by physical testing by an independent testing house, against the requirements of BS EN 13374:2013 (Class A).
- Certified by an independent structural engineer that these RailSafe components when used as a system, meet the requirements of the above standard.
- This is applicable when fixed into 22mm flooring grade chipboard using all fixing holes.
- This is also applicable when fixed into a concrete floor slab using all fixing holes – for additional information on fixing to concrete floors see installation guide available from your Ockwells account manager or branch.
- When fixing to other substrates the end user is responsible for the adequacy of the fixings.
Note: Stringer post, Double Cleat and Telescopic Handrail C/w Fixing Plates (200 - 365mm) have not been tested to the above standard, testing currently underway.
RailSafe – In conjunction with Ockwells Stairwell Hatch System
When appropriate, RailSafe can be used in conjunction with the Ockwells Stairwell Hatch System to form a safe reusable safety system for securing open stairwells, whilst still allowing for controlled access for personnel and materials.
